Our Company...
.
We decided to form a company that would start taking steps towards tackling some of the main issues that are important to us for the future, health, & well being of our children.
.
We have selected a range of products that children will love, but that will also encourage them to be healthy & active, environmentally friendly & interested in the world around them. The emphasis is always on having fun and enjoying the world we live in.
.
Active Play -there should be more of it!
.
The UK has recently seen an alarmingly steep rise in childhood obesity. One of the primary reasons for this is simple - inactivity. Computer games & TV are more accessible than ever before & have, in many instances, replaced active play. We want to rekindle an enthusiasm for exercise and the great outdoors.
.
Learning - and how our children enjoy doing it?
.
Learning is instinctive. Children discover & learn through play. This can be from learning how to balance things; kicking a ball; completing complicated puzzles or simply learning from their mistakes. If we provide our children with an environemnt that is fun & stimulating then children can develop & learn naturally in their own individual way. We aim to nurture & inspire learning.
.
Our products - a bit about them...
.
Our products range from eco baby toys, to toddler walkers, to pre-school learning, to ethical footballs, design your own dressing up costumes, play food for imaginative play, as well as traditional wooden toys, books, green party-essentials, fair trade & organic clothing. We also have a growing range of eco educational toys that will appeal to younger school children. Our products are ethically sourced & environmentally friendly.
.
Our Planet - What are we doing to it!?
.
We should all be taking steps (however small they may seem just now) towards repairing the damage which mankind has created within our environment. Reducing the amount of waste we create is one of the biggest things we can do for the environment. We hope, with your help, to reduce the stream of poor quality, plastic toys & clothing we send to landfill sites everyday to pollute our soil.
.
How are we going to do this...? We sell good quality, durable products from sustainable sources that you will want to keep & then pass on… We do everything we can to ensure our products are ethically sourced & produced with the minimum of damage to the environment.
.
We believe that understanding our environment will make us, & our children, more inclined to look after it. Some of our products have been selected for their educational qualities rather than the way they have been manufactured. Some of our products encourage beneficial behaviour, such as active play or an interest in environmental issues. We want “looking after the environment” to be fun & to become second nature for our children.
.
We adopt ethical & environmentally friendly business practices (read more about this at the bottom of this page).

Family & Community - and why they are important to us?
.
We value the time we spend with our family & friends & appreciate that pressures in our modern working lives can often threaten this precious time. We feel that this is a sad reflection of current times and propose to promote and support local communities and family activities whenever we can.
.
a Green & Ethical business
We believe that being Green & Ethical is a way of life rather than a "jumping on the bandwagon" marketing campaign. We also believe that being Green & Ethical does not need to be complicated.
It involves adopting your own set of green practices, as well as sharing useful information with other individuals & businesses.
We’re not perfect yet, but that is our goal! We aim to adopt green & ethical practices in every aspect of our business, not just those that are visible to the public.
Some of the things we’re doing so far…
Using Energy
- We switch it off when we’re not using it
- We don’t use it unless we need it
- We favour a sustainable source (solar panels to heat our water, & wood-burner to heat us, using wood grown on our land)
- We insulate our building
- We only travel when necessary; we drive efficient cars & share lifts; we do not fly
Waste
- We try not to create it
- We buy in bulk (you have never seen so many toilet-rolls in one place!)
- We only use paper when necessary
- We do not produce excessive marketing materials, or a catalogue
- We reuse it (eg all of our packaging is reused)
- We ensure that as much as possible of our waste is biodegradable or recyclable
- We recycle
Supplies
- We use both sides of our 100% recycled paper from The Green Stationery Company www.greenstat.co.uk
- We drink (gallons of) fairtrade coffee & tea
- We drink tap water (bottled water is banned – it costs more than petrol per litre! And is essentially tap water anyway)
- Food is either local, organic or fairtrade & is mostly made at home; we avoid processed food.
- We are learning to grow our own vegetables (unsuccessfully so far!) www.kitchengarden.co.uk has helped us get started though
Awareness
- We consider & review what we do & the impact it may have on the environment & society
- We are aware of what we don’t know & aim to fill this gap by learning more, hence the vegetables!
- We encourage others to be more environmentally friendly & try not to be too bossy about it!
- We share information and resources
Community
- We want to support & be part of the local community
- We want to raise funds for charitable activities
- We recognise that our customers are our community
Finance & infrastructure
- We pay our invoices by BACS reducing unnecessary paper & fuel to post
- We favour electronic records over paper
- We encourage our suppliers to reduce unnecessary paperwork
- We are open and transparent
- We are a company with charitable aims, where profit is reinvested into achieving our main goal; raising awareness of environmental issues.
Suppliers
- We look for suppliers with solid environmental & ethical business practices
- We always consider a local supplier first
- We constantly review our suppliers & move towards those with superior environmental & ethical practices
- We look for inspirational & innovative ideas and products
Some of the things we will be doing soon...
- We will move to a green energy supplier (Ecotricity is our favourite www.ecotricity.co.uk ) but, at present we are stuck with an economy10 meter
- We will start banking with an ethical and environmentally aware bank such as the Cooperative bank www.co-operativebank.co.uk or Triodos www.triodos.co.uk
- We will move our phone & broadband supply to a green supplier such as the Phone Co-op www.thephone.coop when our current contract ends
Last but not Least
- We have fun and enjoy life
